Foster Care

Ken and I are foster parents for children with special needs. Many people have heard crazy stories of foster parents. I'm sure you know exactly what I'm talking about! Unfortunately, there are people everywhere who make bad choices, but not all foster parents are bad!

We are loving the huge foster community here in Arizona! People are very kind in offering advice, support and activities for foster families. Fostering children with special needs is extremely fun and rewarding for Ken and I. Have you ever watched a child, student, or someone you teach at church work really hard to understand a concept? And when they have that "ah ha!" moment you are so proud and happy and excited for them? Well that happens all the time fostering these special spirits.

We are also in the process of adoption paperwork. Adopting through the foster system is a little bit different from private adoptions. Often you take sibling groups, (which is very exciting!) and usually the children you adopt are a bit older. This presents some challenges because children available for adoption have usually been in foster care on average two years. I'm sure you can imagine how difficult that is for them to not have something concrete or stable. All the more reason to become an adoptive parent!

If you have any questions or would like to know more, drop me a note and I'll be happy to get back to you!
